Sustainability - Our Environmental Statement

One Planet. One Mission. All Of Us.

A healthy society depends on a healthy planet, and climate change is putting both at risk. That’s why, in addition to creating bespoke luxury furniture and serving clients, The Cotswold Bed Company has committed to achieving net-zero climate impact by 2030. We are not alone on our journey to help build a more sustainable and inclusive future, and there will be challenges - but we all need to do more, together.

We recognize our responsibility to help protect the planet. We are committed to minimizing the impact our company has on the environment and supporting those who are working to improve global environmental sustainability.

We will work with external systems, and are on a path with BCorp to help guide us on our journey.

Carbon Footprint

Our factory processes are already a low power usage operation, requiring minimal electricity. However, we are in the process of fitting a solar panel system, which will provide sufficient energy to power our Air Compressor Units - this will mean that our whole operation with require minimal / zero energy input. Our products will be created by the energy of the sun alone. Our factories already have complete LED lighting systems, targeted heating and specially insulated roofing to reduce our ‘non - process’ power usage. This keeps our carbon footprint to an absolute minimum.

Reducing Waste

We are committed to reducing waste across our operational stores.

We aim to reduce waste generation at the source and seek to minimise the waste we send to landfill, using selective disposal methods.

All scrap foam is returned to the manufacturer to remake, and we then buy this back. All scrap fabric is used for covering ‘non-visible’ areas and for making accessories. Part of our timber waste is reused by small manufacturers, and the balance is sent for specific recycling. We promote reuse and recycling, as well as the use of supplies that are recycled and recyclable, whose production and use minimise the consumption of natural resources. Specifically, we aim to reduce our consumption of single - use plastics, use environmentally friendly paper and recycle where possible, including plastics and large electronic equipment.

We recycle over 1000 used University Mattresses each year. Every component is reused and recycled.

We encourage our offices to drive initiatives to reduce waste, including sorting and recycling materials, donating redundant products, putting drinking water taps in place, reducing paper waste and running recycling campaigns.

Materials

All of the wood we use is FSC certified, meaning it is harvested from forests that are responsibly managed and environmentally conscious.

Our mattresses, made with 100% British wool and British Steel springs, will never contain synthetic foams. All of our bedding and mattress filling is OKEO- TEX certified, meaning it is free from chemicals. We work closely with our clients to guide them to use fabrics made of natural fibres, minimising the use of fire retardant coating.

We believe that the use of recycled materials in our process is a way to reduce the impact of overproduction in the textile industry as well as create a circular economy in our sector.

We want to create sustainable, handcrafted furniture that’s made to last, and good for our clients and the environment.
