Meet The Team : Senior Upholsterer, Paul

We are thrilled to introduce you to our Senior Upholsterer, Paul who has over 40 years of experience in the industry and a love for traditional techniques. Get to know him more in this exclusive interview!
How did you get into upholstery?

When I was at school, my Dad found me a job in upholstery through a friend to keep me busy! I began with doing just Saturday Mornings and loved it, so began a 5 year apprenticeship in traditional upholstery.

How long have you been an upholsterer?

43 years.

What do you love about the craft?

I love the process of upholstery, it’s an ancient craft steeped in tradition and history. The process of creating handmade, beautiful furniture using traditional techniques from start to finish is incredibly rewarding.

What are some of your favourite techniques?

Anything traditional. If I had to choose my favourites, it would probably be hand stitching as a way of creating shape and illusion, and deep - buttoning just because I love how it looks and it's very satisfying!

What do you love about working at the CBC and what is your favourite product to make?

I love the team and the family - feel at the CBC. I always like making the Pasha Armchair because of its organic shape. It's lovely to build up the layers and curves gradually and see the chair come to life.
