duvet TOG guide

Your duvet's tog rating and filling can have a significant impact on your night's sleep. Finding yourself getting too hot, too cold, or unable to drift off, chances are it is your duvet that is affecting your night's slumber.

At The Cotswold Bed Company, we pride ourselves on our range of luxurious duvets made from a range of materials, fillings and in a choice of sizes. We have quality bedding to suit all budgets and needs.

What is Tog?

The Tog of your duvet is the degree to which your duvet will retain heat. Tog relates to how warm the duvet will keep you. It is a common misconception that the Tog of your duvet relates to the weight. The weight of your duvet is down to the filling you choose.

You can select from a range of Tog ratings. Essentially the higher the Tog rating, the better it will keep you warm, and vice versa. The lower the Tog rating, the cooler it will keep you. Duvet Tog ratings range from 1.5 Tog to 15 Togs.

The average duvet Tog used in British homes is 10.5 Tog. This is due to 10.5 Togs season versatility. 10.5 Tog is the middle ground if you like to stay cool during the Summer and warm during the Winter. But if you would like more versatility over the Summer, Spring/Autumn, and Winter seasons, we would recommend having a range of duvet Togs to swap out each season.

Our seasonal Tog rating recommendation:

Summer Duvet Tog

1.5 – 4.5 Tog

A lighter duvet Tog will prevent you from overheating due to its lightweight nature, ensuring you keep cool, calm and relaxed at night during the British Summer.

Spring/Autumn Duvet Tog

5.0 – 10.5 Tog

A slightly warmer Tog, this range of duvet will ensure you stay cool yet warm during the transitional unpredictable British Spring/Autumn season.

Winter Duvet Tog

11.0 – 14.5 Tog

The highest range of duvet Tog will keep you warm and cosy during those harsh British Winters.

As children get a lot warmer quicker than adults, we recommend keeping your Tog low for your children to ensure they won't overheat and have a comfortable night's sleep instead.
